Kutai tribe or Tenggarong Kutai Malays are indigenous Kukar district, East Kalimantan. Kutai culture originated from the establishment of the Kingdom of Kutai IV century which is the first Hindu kingdom in the archipelago with the famous king, Mulawarman.

Kutai Tribe consists of 4 sub-ethnic namely:

1. Tenggarong in Tenggarong Kutai, Kutai Kartanegara

3. Kutai in Muara Muara ANCALONG ANCALONG, East Kutai
4. Kutai in Muara Muara PAHU PAHU, West Kutai

Pantun tribe, and Melani Punang grow and develop into Kutai tribe that has the same language but different dialects. Thus Kutai tribe is indigenous to this region. * The Dayak tribes

Descendants Tulur Dijangkat tribe grow and develop into Dayak tribe. They split up leaving the original soil and form groups each tribe is now known as the Dayak tribe Tunjung, Bahau, Benuaq, Modang, Penihing, Busang, Bukat, Ohong and Bentian.
